Key Factors in Wine Cellaring

Temperature

Temperature: Maintaining a consistent temperature is crucial. Ideal cellar temperature is between 12-14°C for most wines. Fluctuations can damage wine, accelerating aging or causing premature spoilage.

Humidity

Proper humidity prevents corks from drying out, which can lead to oxidation. Aim for a humidity level of around 70%.

Exposure to light, especially sunlight, can damage wine. Store your collection in a dark environment.

In summary we decided on the Spiral Cellar because it would not take up any extra room (it would indeed create some more space), I preferred ground temperature storage rather than refrigerated conditions which are associated with the potential for mechanical failure as well as constant low level vibration, and also because we knew that it would look stunning!
